Honeysuckle

Bold, bright copper-orange, tubular flowers, flushed red in bud, from May to July and large, deep green leaves. This delightful, deciduous climber is perfect for a hot planting scheme. One of the most unusual honeysuckles, it flowers best on a south-west wall in full sun to light shade with its roots in deep shade.Position: full sun or partial shadeSoil: fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soilRate of growth: average to fast-growingFlowering period: May and JulyFlower colour: bright copper-orangeOther features: small, red berries may cause a mild stomach upset if ingested; pairs of large, deep-green, oval leaves with whitish-blue undersidesHardiness: fully hardyGarden care: Cut back established plants after flowering, removing a third of the flowering shoots. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant in early spring
