Lemon Espalier

A strong growing plant with heavenly scented white flowers throughout the summer with large lemon/grapefruit fruits. As this is grown as an espalier it is perfect for growing against a a south- or south-west facing wall. However it is sensitive to cold so will need protecting in winter, either by moving it to a frost-free place or by covering the plant with horticultural fleece. In the past, espaliers were mainly used in gardens where it was possible to shelter the plants in a lemon house. However, it is still the most suitable way to grow them against a wall or in a limited space, either in the ground or in a pot.Position: full sunSoil: moist but well-drained, slightly acidic soilRate of growth: averageFlowering period: April to JulyFlower colour: whiteOther features: juicy, yellow lemonsHardiness: tenderGarden care: For a comprehensive care guide for your lemon, click hereKeep your lemon in tip top healthy by using citrus plant foodSummer citrus foodWinter citrus food
