Evergreen Bittersweet

Clusters of tiny, green flowers in May and June and lustrous, yellow-edged, bright-green leaves, pink-tinged in winter. This popular, bushy, variegated, evergreen shrub is ideal for a well-drained border in sun or partial shade. To prevent it from 'reverting' remove any plain green-leaved shoots as soon as they appear.Position: full sun or partial shadeSoil: any well-drained soilRate of growth: fast-growingFlowering period: May and JuneFlower colour: greenOther features: the flowers are followed by spherical, white fruit; all parts of the plant may cause a mild stomach upset if ingestedHardiness: fully hardyGarden care: Tip prune young plants in mid to late spring to encourage bushy growth and apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.
